Brazilian Army awards geospatial software contract to LSI

STERLING, VA, (April 1, , 2007) – LSI, a small business specializing in geospatial technologies and services, has been awarded a Brazilian Army Commission contract for software to support the Army's topographic mapping functions. The award includes database and mapping tools from the 1Spatial Gothic product family and FME data translation tools from Safe Software.

Since 2000, LSI has provided the Brazilian Army's Geographic Service (DSG) with object-oriented database and software tools. Based on their success generating high quality digital mapping products, improving topological validation processes, and reducing the production cycle time by a factor of six as compared to relational database GIS technologies, DSG has expanded implementation of the LSI solution to all regional surveyor divisions . This acquisition will enable Army surveyors across the entire country to perform analysis utilizing the regional geographical data housed in the Gothic database and to access continuous national cartographic data.

The Brazilian Army Commission, founded in 1940, has a mission to acquire goods and services needed to support the Brazilian Army. For this acquisition, the Commission established specifications for a solution that would enable the maintenance of accurate data, process lineages, and detailed representations of features. Key features of the LSI solution include:

  • Capture, storage, search and manipulation of spatial data;
  • Efficient introduction of complex geographical models;
  • Ability to provide a comprehensive customization environment;
  • Access to data from outside applications and data formats;
  • Focus on maintain clean feature topologies.
